With a spectacular opening ceremony, the 2025 Adult Ninepin Bowling World Championship has begun in Székesfehérvár. Over the next ten days, the best national teams from 16 countries will compete at the MET Arena in the sport’s most prestigious event.

In the group stage, the men’s national team will face Austria, Italy, and Denmark in Group A, while the women’s team will take on Romania, France, and Poland in hopes of advancing.

Several distinguished guests spoke at the opening ceremony, including Balázs Baji, Director General of the National Institute for Sport Development and Methodology, who highlighted:

“It’s a joy that after 2013, Hungary once again has the honor of hosting the Ninepin Bowling World Championship. We believe it’s essential to preserve the role of sport in society and to bring more people closer to regular physical activity. A world-class event hosted at home is an excellent opportunity for this.”

Mayor of Székesfehérvár, András Cser-Palkovics, also proudly welcomed the world’s best bowlers:

“A world championship for a sport dating back thousands of years, held in a city with a thousand-year history – this is truly a special moment. We are proud of the MET Arena and of the fact that two athletes from Székesfehérvár are representing the national team. Ninepin bowling is no stranger here – our youth have also performed successfully at the junior world championships.”

Marcell Pintyőke, president of both the international and Hungarian bowling federations, emphasized that the event is more than just a competition:

“This world championship is much more than a contest. It is a celebration where ninepin bowling – our shared passion – brings us together. We wanted to show what this sport means to us and what we hope to offer to everyone celebrating with us.”

The National Competitive Sports Association (NVESZ) was also represented at the event. Secretary General Edina Vargáné Andrejkó presented an award at the MET Arena, which was received by Marcell Pintyőke for his outstanding contribution to the sport of ninepin bowling.
